An Overview

The Promise: Abiding Life-Giving Presence

Our promise to “the Valley” and surrounding communities is to be an abiding life-giving presence.

By “abide” we mean to live alongside our neighbors.  In “life-giving” we mean to give testimony of our own relationship with Jesus Christ and live out good for the glory of God in our community.  Finally, “presence” means to be with those we are discipling through life’s ups and down.

So, being people transformed by our own life-giving relationship with Jesus Christ, we promise, as equipped by the Holy Spirit, to abide alongside and be present in the lives of our neighbors. Loving in word and deed, doing good for the glory of God and teaching disciples of Christ to observe all that He has commanded.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spiritteaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

The Gospel of Matthew 28:18-20
(English Standard Version)

The Practice: Life-Changing

Discipleship.  It’s messy. Full of fear, full of joy, filled with tears and plenty of prayers.  Yet, I wouldn’t pass it up for anything.  You can see, hear, feel and taste the power of the Gospel when you’re living alongside someone being transformed by it.  I myself am being shaped by the experience of passing on the faith. Trying one teaching method and failing, early mornings, late nights and the mundane routine.  I, too, am a learner, a disciple of Christ and He uses steps of faith made in obedience to teach me more and more of who He is and who I am becoming in Him.  Let me challenge you.  Make disciples wherever you are.  It’s why God has you there!  Don’t forget He is there with you too

The People: Life-Transfer

Abide as a Missionary

In order to transfer our gospel-changed life to another, we need committed people to live & serve alongside us.  This can be done during regular program involvement, internships and missionary residence.

Be present as a Mentor

The presence of a mentor can make all the difference.  Allow the Gospel to work itself out through you by committing to teach, tutor, train, disciple (whatever you do best) with a small group at your own pace.

-Dorthea Lapress, Director Emeritus

In 1938, the ministry moved to a facility near Elk  & Babcock in the neighborhood known locally as, “The Valley”

Founding Purpose: “It shall serve as a center to provide religious instruction in teaching, ministry or any other method approved by the Board of Directors to win boys and girls, men and women for Christ in a Christian environment where ever opportunity may present.”
